Faces of Folkestone : David Hamilton Boyd

David Hamilton Boyd, the owner of Folklore, one of our fab new additions to Folkestone, shares his favorite cocktails with us and a hint of their fun plans to come post lockdown!

MF: Can you sum up in three words what Folkestone means to you?

DHB: Creativity. Community. Opportunity

MF: What gave you the idea to create Folklore and why in Folkestone?

DHB: I have worked in the hospitality industry for over two decades and I have always wanted to have my own bar. After moving to Folkestone several years ago, it's been a long-term plan to open Folklore here. I feel what we have to offer is very different from what’s currently on offer and will fit into Folkestone's already thriving bar scene.

MF: What’s the most popular cocktail?

DHB: We currently offer a delivery service to Folkestone and the surrounding areas and we have a range of cocktails on offer which we are constantly updating. I'd say that our most popular cocktail at the moment would be our Blueberry and White Chocolate Gin Punch. We use wild blueberry purée and our home spiced Beefeater gin -  it's rich and warming with a sweet finish. A real comfort drink…

MF: Where are your favorite spots to hang out in Folkestone?

DHB: It’s been great to see new places popping up over the last few years. I love an Old Fashioned at The Potting Shed and Marley’s is my favorite brunch hang out. You can't beat the selection of R=rums at the Rum Clinic either.

MF: How do you see the Summer looking for Folkestone and what can we expect to see from Folklore?

DHB: Well, that’s a good question... We hope that we can open it as a “drink in” cocktail bar but this really depends on restrictions. If we are able to open fully, you can expect a 20+ signature cocktail menu with lots of theatre and playful drinks. I have worked very hard over the last two years developing some very special drinks so there are lots to try. We infuse all our own flavored spirits and make the majority of our ingredients ourselves. As well as the cocktails, we’ll have a range of local beers and wines. During the day, Folklore will be a great place to work or just have a coffee and watch the world go by.

MF : What do you think MyFolkestone brings to the community?

DHB: MyFolkestone is a great way to find out all about what our great town has to offer!
